Hello,

Something is not completely clear about WAFL, what it does and how it does it.

More details should be given on what is a "mobile device". Is it defined as a device using a WAP (WML) browser ? Is it defined by a screen size ? ...

More specifically how does WAFL consider a device as being mobile ? By detecting the user agent ? If yes which user agents are considered as mobile ? How could you define a specific user agent as being or not being "mobile" ?

Some examples : is iPhone a "mobile device" ?  Is N95 a "mobile device" ? Are Windows Mobile PDAs and/or Smartphone,"mobile devices" ?

Moreover, even though it may look nice to pack a existing web site and send it to Siruna for adaptation, a much better way would be to allow the joomla administrator to select alternative pages and/or modules to be sent to siruna (for better rendering).

Examples :

- do not use the standard "home page" of the site but another one,

- do not use the standard main_menu but another one more targeted to mobile dveices,

- do not use this page (which may contain a flash content), but this one

- etc.

Thanks in advance for you reply

Best regards

Hi,

The detection of mobile devices is done based on the http headers from the incoming request. The user agent, accept headers and mobile headers are matched to a series of values from which we know they represent a cellphone, pda, or any other device with limited means to render webpages that are originally designed for desktop users.

You could take a look at the devicedetection.xml file in the lib folder of the plugin to get a better picture of what exactly is being matched.
